The Pirates of Penzance tells the tale of Frederic, a young man who believes he is bound by duty to remain a pirate until his 21st birthday. However, since he was born on February 29th—a leap year—he discovers that he won’t actually turn 21 for many years to come. Along the way, Frederic meets an array of colorful characters, such as the flamboyant Pirate King, the quick-witted Major-General, and a spirited group of maidens. Torn between his sense of duty and his love for the charming Mabel, Frederic finds himself in a series of hilarious dilemmas. The story unfolds with plenty of humor, romance, and a delightful touch of whimsy, reminding audiences that even the most rigid obligations can be outsmarted.
